Typical symptoms

Forceful gripping, palm-up lifting or bending the wrist can load the inner elbow.

How is the cause assessed?

Examination assesses the painful tendon attachment and symptoms when loading the wrist flexors. Associated sensory changes or weakness require further assessment.

Consider other causes

Numbness or tingling in the ring and little fingers may suggest involvement of the ulnar nerve. They should not be attributed to the tendon attachment alone.

Treatment options

Without surgery

Activity changes and progressive guided strengthening are key approaches. A forearm strap may help temporarily.

Surgical options

Surgery is uncommon and considered for persistent significant symptoms despite suitable care.

Suitable treatment depends on the confirmed diagnosis, examination findings and your individual needs.

When to seek an examination

Seek assessment for persistent pain or difficulty with daily activities. New numbness or weakness needs earlier assessment.
